Search and Pounce Window

The Search and Pounce window allows the user to store the call sign, mode and frequency information into three storage areas that can be recalled later. The Search and Pounce window looks like this:

WriteLog Search and Pounce Window

Pressing either 1, 2, or 3 under the STO (Store) column will take the current call sign from the entry window, mode and frequency information from your radio and place it into the storage number pressed. You will be able to see the call sign and frequency on this display once stored.

To recall the information, press either 1, 2, or 3 for the station desired under the RCL (Recall) column. This will result in WriteLog taking the information and moving it into the QSO Entry window and changing your radio to the frequency and mode that was stored.

The S&P window is useful as compared to, say, the Band Map, that also stores ham radio call signs and columns. The S&P is best used for storing important multiplier or station information that needs to be worked where instant access is needed.

Say, for example, that you are running stations and 5X/K9JY, a desperately needed multiplier, comes up on your spotting network. Clicking on the spot during a quick break in your CQ'ing, bringing the call into the Entry Window and moving your radio to the spot frequency, you hear a breathtaking pileup and know there is no way that you will work the station right away. Not wanting to lose your CQ frequency, you click "1" on the STO (Store) column in the S&P window and 5X/K9JY is stored for quick access. Pressing F12, you return to your run frequency.

After five minutes, you take another quick break from calling CQ and click "1" on the RCL (recall) column of the S&P window. WriteLog moves 5X/K9JY back into the QSO Entry window, changes your radio to the correct mode and frequency and you are back listening to the pileup.  You work the station, or not, and then press F12 to move you back to your run frequency.
