Laid Off — a different kind of contesting…
Posting has been a bit bare here recently, though I have continued to work on the WriteLog site. The reasoning was that on Monday both myself and my wife were laid off from our company. We’re doing fine, but we’ve also recognized that taking some time for ourselves is an important thing to do, so blogging has been way more than secondary to making sure we are fine and start to work our plans.
More contesting to come, of course. Perspective is a great thing. You can check out the details over on my business blog, Cube Rules, and the article Laid Off — A new journey begins.

Hey, Scot — we’re doing fine and are ready for the long haul if need be. But, it’s still a big event.
Our first interview was Tuesday…
So sorry to hear this news Scot. I had a similar experience a few years ago. I had been a long-time employee of Compuware. One evening I came home from work and found a FedEx package in the door. In it, was a “Welcome to Kelly Services” letter with company information. I had no idea why I had received this package. The next day, I received a recorded phone message that said; “thank you for your service to Compuware but we have sold your division and you now work for Kelly Services and should be receiving an info packet from them in the coming days…”
I haven’t had a really decent job since then but I’m beginning to enjoy freelancing and though the pay and benefits leave a lot to be desired, the hours and freedom are quite welcome.
I trust you will land on your feet and look forward to reading how this all turns out for you.
Chin up and good luck!

Sorry to hear about this Scot. Just started to frequent your blog a month or so ago. I work in private security . I was about this || close to getting it myself. Got the letter and everything. luckily it was a mistake. But it was also a sign. I had been on the list at one time. stuck it out for another year while looking. Luckily nothing happened but I found a better place and several others have come before and with me. I had forgotten what a raise was due to cutbacks and increased insurance. Now I have gotten a promotion after 1.5yrs and it looks good for the future. You’ll get through it for sure!
